There are several national and international entrance tests to secure admission to engineering programs, however, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) tops the list. The examination is considered to be one of the most difficult ones in India to crack and requires meticulous efforts from aspirants.
All those who try for B. Tech admissions attend JEE conducted twice a year across the country. Considered one of the most competitive examinations in India, it provides a gateway for students to secure admission in the premium institutes such as IIT, NIT, etc.
While the mode of preparation varies for each student, let’s discuss a few common tips that will be useful for everyone preparing to attend JEE Main and Advanced.
What is JEE?
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), previously known as the All India Engineering Entrance Examination, is a computer-based test administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The examination comprises two parts, namely JEE Main and Advanced. JEE Main qualifies you for admission to various programs in different colleges and if you score the cut-off marks or above, you will be qualified to attend JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is more difficult and the scores of which are often accepted by IITs.
JEE Main consists of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is for students who wish to take B. Tech or B.E. courses and Paper 2 is for those who plan to take B. Arch. or B. Planning. Online mode of examination is conducted for Paper 1 whereas Paper 2 requires offline examination. The examination is held twice a year and a student can attend it twice if they wish to have the best score out of the two considered for further stages.
How to prepare for JEE Main and Advanced?
Extensive preparation, hard work, and dedication are necessary to crack the JEE examinations. Many students invest years of their life to prepare for these exams and get into their dream institutions. However, it is not the number of years but the effectiveness of strategies that make you succeed in your attempt. Here are a few tips to get you through the examination.
You must understand the entire syllabus of the examination and cover it fully without leaving any part of it. Going through the whole syllabus at least once can give you confidence and will allow you to attend the exam like a pro.
Create a study plan and stick to it. As said, dedication and hard work are very important in this journey. No matter how many hours you study, make sure that you do it well and thoroughly in the time you get.
Solve previous year’s papers so that you have an idea of the questions asked. Besides this also familiarises you with the exam pattern and helps you finish it on time.
Have a revision plan and do not keep difficult portions piled up to study it last. Do not cover new topics in the last few days. Utilise this time to revise what you already know.
